What the winery says about the Matua Valley Single Vineyard Matheson Merlot 2009 . . . .

Rich and full with a touch of sweetness. The layers of ripe blackberries and red fruits meld semlessly with fine grained long supple tannins. Hints of pastry and nutmeg (reminiscent of a homemade blackberry pie), mocha and dusty cocoa round out the finish.

Reasonably concentrated dark berry and plum flavours with a seasoning of spicy oak. The wine has a deliciously smooth texture that gives it an almost pinot noir-like character. Bright and pure with energy and length.  Gourmet Traveller WINE Magazine Oct/Nov 2011
